Kannan Thevan was an Adivasi (a tribal), who unraveled to a British planter and his team a tract of hills that was left largely unexplored and covered with thick forests. Today Kannan Devan Hills is a well-recognized name internationally. Though the pioneers tried many crops such as Coffee, Cinchona, Sisal and Cardamom, they discovered the crop best suited for this area was tea. Today, Munnar is known for its sprawling aromatic tea plantations around the world. Munnar is one of the best tea producers in the world.
